Football in the “Mud-lot”: Grandpark Defeats Mandarin!

If the sandlot is where kids go to play baseball in the dirt, then the mudlot is where the kids go play football in the mud. Saturday the mudlot was definitely at Wesconnett park where the Grandpark Seahawks faced the the Mandarin Tigers in junior midget action. Mandarin’s division one team went undefeated last year rolling through the Junior Midget division. Grandpark on the other hand went 4-4 and a .500 season. But this year showcases new teams and new players, and Grandpark knew they had to go through Mandarin to get to the level they desired.

Their  14-0 victory last weekend was a strong statement that the Trojans may be on the right path. Grandpark deployed a running game suited for the elements that wore down the Tigers with tailback #5.  Grandpark decided to test the Mandarin secondary and won as #16 their wide receiver caught a pass in double coverage and broke a tackle to race to the end zone. That was all Grandpark needed as their defense shut out Mandarin on the evening. The Seahawks go 2-0 on the season while the Tigers drop to 1-1.
