Alec Adamec led his team to a rushing touchdown and then a long passing touchdown to get the victory over First Coast in a district 7A matchup Saturday night. Adamec connected with Chrisjohn Roscoe for a 68 yard catch and run to shell shock the Bucs. Although this play occurred midway through the second quarter, First Coast looked completely demoralized after the play. They were unable to generate any enthusiasm during the game, and seemed to be looking for someone to generate that spark.

First Coast received a jolt from #2 WR Champ Desue who took a quick screen 15 yards for the score. Before that, Jalen Sapp charged First Coast initially with an interception return for a touchdown. But it wasn’t enough to ignite a team in desperate need of a spark. With every strong run, and hard hit by Fletcher the Senators gained confidence. Even kicker Cesar Sanchez felt the momentum building. After missing a shorter field goal just before halftime, Sanchez hit a 47 yd field goal in the 3rd quarter to put his team up 17-14. The score would be the deciding points of the evening as Fletcher’s defense kept First Coast at bay.

After a rocky start Fletcher knows that they control their own destiny in the district after this win. Atlantic Coast lost to Lee on the very same evening, paving the way for Fletcher to regain ground on a team that handed them one of their early season losses. At 4-2 and 1-1 in the division they stayed alive and have a shot. Tonight they played like they were the more desperate team, a team that is starting to believe in themselves.

First Coast falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the district. After years of dominating the regular season and running over the competition in the city, teams know that this is a down year for them and they smell blood in the water. It’s their first district loss since 2009, but even more disturbing is the inconvenient truth that has slowly risen to the surface for all to see.
First Coast has lost it’s confidence in themselves. With only one loss in the district the season is far from over, but it will be the job of Coach Marty Lee and his seniors to figure out a way to galvanize the team before it’s to late.
