Trinity Begins their Walk To Title Three! Winning 49-3

It wasn’t the way Coach Verlon Dorminey drew it up, but he and his talented roster will certainly take the victory. They defeated Pensacola Catholic 49-3 in their first playoff game of the post season. Trinity scored 49 unanswered points, all of them in the first half of the football game.

It began with a Billy Cobb pass to WR Damien McGhee who took it 45 yards for the touchdown. It took one move for McGhee to take it the distance.

Next it would be D.J Matthews turn as he took a punt return 60 yards for another score in less than five minutes.

Pensacola attempted to put together a nice drive but it was stuffed by the Trinity defense. Cobb would toss it up to McGhee for 40 yards and the very next play RB Jaylen Buie took run around the left end out racing the defenders to the endzone to make it 21-0.

After the score the Catholic players became very restless and the catholic parents became increasingly frustrated at the outcome of the game. IMG_4241 (800x533)Parents were heard yelling and screaming from the stands at referees. One particular play would bring the emotions to a boiling point.

Trinity completed a long play near the Pensacola Catholic sideline. The play would take the players out of bounds and pushing then shoving commenced. It would lead to a Trinity player being lifted and slammed to the ground on the Catholic sideline spurring  Trinity players to leave their sideline heading toward the middle of the field.

At the end of the melee, referees would decide to eject three players from Trinity’s team including starting quarterback #12 Billy Cobb and running back #3 Jalin Buie. IMG_4197 (800x533)One player from the Crusaders would also be ejected. It was a moment in the game that had the potential to change an outcome if it were any other team. But this wasn’t just any other team we’re talking about here, this was the Trinity Christian Conquers! Wide Receiver D.J Matthews was put at Quaterback and led the offense to two more scores on the evening. Matthews took a 92 yard zone read QB keep to the house late in the 2nd quarter. He then handed the ball off to #6 Killian who raced for another touchdwon. At this point it was 49-0, thanks in large part to two defensive touchdowns earlier in the 2nd quarter. One by LB Tyreke Johnson who had a pick six, and DT Kendall Brown who grabbed a batted ball at the line of scrimmage and rumbled down the field of play for the score.

Though Pensacola showed fight and toughness they were undersized and overwhelmed with speed tonight. Trinity was never challenged on the evening. The running clock began at the beginning of the second half as Trinity’s next opponent was put on the clock at half time of this game. Trinity will face Taylor County who defeated Providence Friday night 42-28.
