It was a rainy night in Florida for the 2015 Duval County Middle School Championship game, as Twin Lakes Academy took on Fletcher Middle School. Fletcher came into the contest the odds on favorite at 8-0. They went undefeated in the regular season and defeated Stilwell Middle School in the first round of the playoffs to advance to the championship.
They are led by Head Coach Marty McCauslin who is making his second straight trip to the Championship game. McCaulsin has had great success in Middle School football, he’s also led Landmark to winning seasons before the Middle School Championships were formed. McCaulsin has built a staff that is second to none in Middle School. They have a system on offense and defense to which his coordinators run to perfection. They shut out Stilwell 36-0 last week, and as stingy as the Fletcher defense is, their offense is truly the difference maker in games. The offense runs through arguably the most talented running back in Middle School #21 Cedric Woodson. Woodson is without question the bell cow for the team, and he would be the focus for Twin Lakes on the evening.
Twin Lakes came into the game riding a wave of emotion and rightly so. They had dethroned the defending champion Mathew Gilbert Panthers who had won 71 games in a row. Head Coach Gamble would be making his second trip to the championship in three years but this time would attempt to rely on the big man FB/DL Walter Cox and RB Ronnie West to match physicality with Fletcher. Their offense is predicated on precise execution and the element of surprise, but they would not surprise Fletcher on this night.

Fletcher began the game on offense recovering a squib kickoff by Twin Lakes at their own 43 yard line. It would take just eight plays for them to reach the end zone. The big play on the drive was a 31 yard touchdown on a reverse by #34 Tanner Wood. 
Instead of Woodson starting at RB, Fletcher elected to begin their drive with Adrian Chavers #11. He picked his way through the Twin Lakes defense for the first down on several runs setting up the reverse by Wood. Twin Lakes would attempt to respond on offense but was forced to turn the ball over on downs by the Fletcher defense. The next offensive possession for Fletcher featured Woodson, it took just one play and one touch for him to let loose. He took a sweep play 50 yards and was stopped by a shoe string tackle. Three plays later Woodson would take the sweep around the left end to score and put Fletcher up 14-0.

At this point in the second quarter Twin Lakes seemed to wake up on defense. Their offense failed to convert a 4th & 1 QB sneak, but the defense forced Fletcher’s first punt of the evening. Twin Lakes got the ball deep in their own territory and attempted to mount a drive. But Twin Lakes fumbled the snap and it was recovered by Fletcher. Chavers would take the off tackle play up the middle to score for the second time and the route was on.

Fletcher would add another touchdown when Woodson took it in from 5 yds out in the second half to book their championship and win the game 28-0.
Fletcher’s preparation
for the game seemed to be paramount. They always seemed to be one step ahead of the Timber wolves. Credit goes to the coaching staff for their repetition with the players. But the players are ultimately to be commended for their performance.
All Conference LB John Bosco #54 was injured in practice the day before the game and could not play in the championship, but his teammates stepped up big time. In particular , #45 Jacob Zetrouer linebacker who led the defense in tackles. Zetrouer was seen making big tackles for losses and had several punishing hits in the game.

Twin Lakes had a remarkable season and can find a peoric victory in knowing they defied the odds this season. Yet the 2015 Duval County Middle School Championship belongs to the Fletcher Middle School Football team. Unblemished, untied, un-unscathed , and Undefeated… Champions!
