Ribault’s Postseason Ends in Suwannee

Ribault fell to district 5A champion Suwannee on Friday night eliminating them from the playoffs. Ribault’s Desean McNair was inujured in the game. McNair got hurt in the 1st quarter of the playoff  game at Suwannee, the same place and same quarter that he was injured in a month earlier regular season contest against their district opponents.

Ribault still held a 12-7 lead thanks to two touchdowns from senior RB Brandon Thomas. Their first touchdown was set up by Ribault’s Leon Huey ILB who stripped the Suwannee ball carrier. Huey had an awesome game on defense making several tackles. Suwannee would respond with two touchdowns . QB Steven Anderson threw one  and ran one to give the Bulldogs a 20-12 lead.

QB Jhamaall Marsh led Ribault on a game tying drive late in the 4th with a touchdown and two point conversion to WR Antonio Hagans forcing overtime in Suwannee. In overtime, the Trojans stopped the Bulldogs who missed a field goal. But the Trojans possession in overtime stalled at the 4yd line. The Trojans would miss a field goal as well , setting up for a second overtime. Ribault’s kicking game did them in all game. Their punter missed the ball on a punt entirely earlier in the game setting up Suwannee at the Ribault 10yd line . Suwannee would eventually score their first TD. Ribault’s punter then shanked a punt leading to another Suwannee score.

The first play of Suwannee’s first possession in the 2nd overtime, RB Aaron McCallister ended the Trojan season with a 10 yard run and the touchdown.
It was a great season for the Trojans who avenged last year’s playoff miss with a deep run this year. They accomplished much more than many anticipated this year and the team should be proud.
