West Orange Ends Mandarin’s Great Season

The Mandarin Mustangs fell to the West Orange Warriors 41-26 Friday night, shutting the door on the possibility of a District 8A classification participant from Jacksonville advancing to the Florida State Title Game.

Mandarin fell behind 21-0 thanks to big runs by West Orange’s big play Quarterback Ervin “Woody” Barrett. Barrett was named the athlete of the year by Orlando.com

Mandarin would attempt to claw back into the contest as Senior Quarterback Tyler Greenlee led his team back. He connected on a 30 yard pass down the middle setting up a score to pull Mandarin within a touchdown and two point conversion. But West Orange responded with a 65 yard touchdown pass to go up 28-13. Another big play by Greenlee, a 55 yd bomb would not be enough to rally the Mustangs. West Orange would go on to win the game 41-26.

For Mandarin it was an incomparable season. Predicted by many to be in the middle of the pack of their district, Mandarin went undefeated in the regular season and advanced to the third round of the playoffs. The Mustangs may have fallen short tonight, but they stampeded to success in 2015.
