Sandalwood High School- The Saints held down the “Home Mat Advantage” as they won the 2016 Gateway Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Sandalwood tallied win after win in the final round of several different weight classes to get the overall team victory. The Saints capitalized on the lack of size with several wins in the lighter weight divisions. Coach Casey Gibson praised his team and opponents. ” This was a great group of talent that we just competed against, and this is our second straight gateway championship they’ve done a great job”. Sandalwood will now prepare for the districts where they have some of the best competition in the state ahead. They faced one of their district opponents today in Lee who placed third. Mandarin placed second in the tournament with a strong showing from their wrestlers.
Congratulations to the 2016 Gateway Conference Champions, the Sandalwood Saints!
