Parker Ambushes Raines in the 2nd Round!

Terry Parker High School- The second round of the gateway basketball tournament was held in Arlington Wednesday night, and the second of two games featured the Raines Vikings versus the Parker Braves.

Parker jumped out to an early lead with a three pointer and accurate shooting from the perimeter. From the beginning they looked energized by the home crowd. IMG_7751However Raines would summon energy of their own thanks to their spirited cheerleaders. This energy would translate into points as Raines tied the game at halftime 23-23.  Solomon Kinley would provide a solid presence in the paint which yielded several field goals for Raines. The Vikings would use this momentum to come out of the second half hot, taking the lead in the third period. They led Parker 40-29 at the end of the third when Parker’s Malcom Richardson hit a three pointer from half court to end the third. Parker still trailed 40-32, but the shot seemed to galvanize his team.

In the final period,Parker deployed a full court press that flustered the Vikings. IMG_7799The Braves would capitalize on steals and turn them into fast break points. It was an ambush that Raines never saw coming.  They harassed the Vikings guards into making careless turnovers and forced Big Sol to have to sit on the bench because of the Braves smaller lineup.

Parker’s Erik Hill was the catalyst for their efforts. He had an emphatic block late in the fourth quarter, brining the crowd to its feet. And on offense he moved without the ball well which allowed his guards to find him for easy layups. Hill would finish with 14 points and Richardson with 19 points as Parker would edge Raines 48-45. Trevon Laidler led Raines with 16 points.
