Duuuval’s Game of the Week!! Creeks Gold vs Pablo Creek

Last Saturday in the junior pee wee division of Pop Warner football  sat two teams with strong defenses and disciplined offenses. These teams have become rivals over the years and on this day more than just bragging rights were on the line. Sole position of first place in division II was on the line as well, and the winner would have the inside track to the #1 seed in the playoffs equipped with a first round bye.  It was the Creeks Gold Outlaws vs the Pablo Creek Saints.

Both teams came into the contest with one loss at 4-1. Creek’s loss came at the hands of arguably the best team in division I , the Grand Park Trojans. Pablo Creek fell to an upstart Arlington team the week before. So if the Saints could defeat the outlaws they would gain the tie breaker. IMG_2853

The game started just as anticipated with both teams attempting to establish their running games. The Outlaws ultimately gained field position and by the end of the first quarter, found themselves inside the Saints five yard line. Two plays later, the Outlaws punched it in with a dive play up the gut to go ahead 6-0.

The entire second quarter showcased both teams defense as the Outlaws stopped the Saints on downs and the Saints ball hawking safety intercepted a Creek’s pass deep in Saints territory. The interception would spoil an attempt by Creeks to go up by two scores at the half, and instead kept the score at 6-0.

But that wouldn’t last long, as Pablo Creek took the second half kickoff all the way for a touchdown. The extra point attempt failed and the game was knotted at six deep into the fourth quarter. Creeks drove deep into Saints territory as time expired in regulation leaving the ball on the Saints 10 yd line.

The outlaws would receive the ball first in the overtime period. It took just one play for them to score on a off tackle run to their right side capped off by their tailback breaking several tackles to get in. The  extra point in pop warner football is crucial because the difficulty is higher than running a play from scrimmage. Creeks has one of the best kickers in the city and he booted the two pointer through.

It was Pablo Creek’s turn to answer and their first play seemed promising getting them down to the 10 yard line. But bad snaps plagued the Saints this afternoon. On 4th and goal, the saints committed an errant snap in which their QB attempted to pick it up and run but was sacked by the outlaws ending any hope for a Saints score.

Final Score: Creeks Outlaws Gold 14-  Pablo Creek Saints – 6  / OT
