2016 Spring Football Recap: Wolfson vs Stanton!!

DuvalSports.com will recap all the spring football games in Northeast Florida this summer! Check out this game’s recap below.

Stanton- The players and coaches for Stanton and Wolfson were ready to showcase their hard work in spring practice on the exhibition field against one another. The Blue Devils and Wolfpack would meet in a spring football game on Jacksonville’s Northside.

Stanton started on offense first pounding their running back Corday Stafford. Wolfson’s defense would force a punt, but Wolfson muffed the punt and Stanton recovered it deep in Wolfpack territory. It was the first game this spring that orchestrated a live punt. An official would later state that both coaches agreed to these stipulations before the game, however Wolfson’s Head Coach Toby Bullock seemed confused about the result of the play.

The muffed punt gave Stanton a new set of downs in the red zone. A few plays later Stafford would pound it in from the one yard line to put Stanton up 7-0. Corday is a big back used to move piles. He accomplished this fairly well in the game. If he works on his agility this summer he could be used in a more versatile role for the fall.

But for now, the versatility of the Blue Devil offense comes from their Quarterback Laterrian Moore. Moore moved the offense very well in the spring game. His asset is undoubtedly the speed and agility he possesses, but he also showed that he is a duel threat QB. On the next Stanton touchdown, Moore threw a quick pop pass to his TE Raphael Rathle, who rumbled 40 yards for the touchdown.

Rathle is a big target who can run well, and possesses good hands. Hey may be the most gifted athlete on Stanton’s roster, whom if he played on a better team you’d hear his name more often. The most gifted player on Wolfson’s team looks to be running back #20 David Vaughns. Vaughns answered Stanton’s 14-0 lead quickly with a 99 yard touchdown run to close his teams deficit to 14-7. He had several big runs in the game, and was the fastest player on the field. Watch out for this young man in the fall!

Stanton’s first team offense was very impressive. Moore navigated the offense well and the coaching staff dialed up a mix up plays that kept Wolfson’s defense off balance. The only bright spot for Wolfson defense in the first half was #10 Keethan Seay who registered several tackles, a sack, and forced fumble. A rising junior and regional qualifier in wrestling, this undersized but tenacious linebacker is a play maker on defense.

His efforts weren’t enough in the first half however, as Stanton’s Warren Day scored on the end around untouched to make the score 21-7 Stanton. Day is on of the hardest workers on the team. He’s worked very hard this spring and his effort yielded results.

In the second half many of the second teamers got a lot of action, however both teams have many players who go both ways on the field. Wolfson’s offense caught fire and they reeled off 20 unanswered points. Their defense also started to create turnovers.

Freshman Masen Clark tossed a big pass to Carl Brown, who made a great catch over the Stanton defender. He reaced 75 yards for the touchdown. The Wolfson seconds ignited the firsts as the Wolfpack offense began to make big plays even when both coaches put their firsts back into the game.

In the end it yielded a final score of 30-21 with some good noticeable talent on both sides this spring.
