Andre’s Take…

IMG_2695

44.25 points per game, that’s what the 2015 Trinity Christian Conquerors averaged in the 2015 playoffs as they rolled to a third consecutive state championship. The unit was filled with play makers from top to bottom. From young players like sophomore Chamarri Conner who had a pick six in their championship game. He is now listed on the ESPN Top 300.  To steady seniors like Quarterback Billy Cobb, WR Damien McGhee, and DB Reggie Gunn who provided consistency and dependability to a group of talented young stars. Trinity is not used to a team matching them with star power, and the 1984 Lee Generals have star power. But the way Trinity wears you down is possessing better talent and depth across the board. It’s not just the 5 star prospects you know, it’s the 3 star prospects that you get to know during the course of the game.  Sure the 1984 Lee Generals may match Trinity’s star power with Leroy Butler and Edgar Bennett roaming the fields, but eventually Trinity wears them down with the experience of their senior studs at every key position.

Corey’s Take…..

1984 Lee (11-1) under Corky Rogers outscored its opponents 406-52 during the regular season, while posting 5 shutouts before running into future NFL all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith in a second round 28-25 playoff loss to Escambia.Edgar Bennett and Leroy Butler who both were teammates at FSU and Green Bay were the leaders on the team. Behind those two guys, Lee was virtually untouchable that season with wins over Ribault (39-6), Raines (21-13) and Suwannee.
