Each week DuvalSports.com selects players from High School, and Middle School or Youth leagues as our players of the week. We invite them to Gator’s Dockside Baymeadows where they are acknowledged on the Duval Sports Show, and treated to a meal fit for champions. High School Player of the Week

Anthony Evelyn– Fletcher

Down 6-0 in the second quarter and struggling to find their offense the Fletcher Senators turned to Anthony Evelyn for a spark and he delivered. Evelyn gained chunks of yard for first downs and set up his teammate Michael Young for a  1 yard QB sneak for a touchdown to get his team back in the game. He galvanized his team on the drive with his spirit and intensity pumping his teammates up. Yet Evelyn’s positive emotions during that drive were actually born out of negative emotions from the previous drive by Parker.

“I blame it on myself. We were in cover three and I saw the Quarterback coming and it popped right out of my hands. Jai Williams (Parker) got the ball and just spurted out. So I felt like it was my fault so I just had to bring the team back up”. He brought his team up and over the Terry Parker Braves 35-20 Monday night. He finished with 10 carries 85 yards, 2 touchdowns and and interception.

It was a special nigt at Gator’s Dockside on Tuesday for Anthony as he received the honor of being player of the week in front of his former middle school Head Coach Marty McCaulsin. The two shared a moment together. ” This is one of my former players too” said McCaulsin. “Yea, I loved Coach’s offense because everyone got the ball” said Anthony. Evelyn is a special talent with the ball in his hands and colleges have begun to notice.

His play on the field and his impact on the community reaches further than the High School game, but it resonates in the middle school game as well.

Middle School Football Player of the Week

Chandler Kirton

Chandler Kirton is one of those middle school players that got a chance to see a former Fletcher Middle player achieve Fletcher High School success. He was honored as our player of the week for middle school football. Now sure the season has not started yet, but Kirton is one of the returning leaders on the team that won the 2015 City Championship last year. He plays offensive and defensive line, and don’t let the big smile fool you, this kid is a big terror on the field.

The balance between gridiron giant, and school scholar is a delicate one. There is tremendous time and effort that must be placed on each to be successful. However Chandler excels in both. He is a model student at school, and a captain on the football team. A feat that makes his coach and family very proud of him. His mother and brother joined him to celebrate his accomplishment as being named player of the week at Gator’s Dockside Baymeadows Tuesday. Said his mother ” I am extremely proud of him, he loves the game and he loves to play”. It’s that love for the game and confidence in his play that has Chandler Kirton ready to lead his team in defense of their title.

Congratulations to Anthony Evelyn and Chandler Kirton our Player’s of the Week!
