Miami Jackson and Florida’s First Female Head Coach Upsets #1 Ranked Booker T

The State of Florida is a buzz tonight as the #1 ranked Booker T Washington Tornadoes were upset by Miami Jackson 12-9. Jackson is led by the first female head coach in Florida High School Football history Lakatriona Brunson. It was an historic hire for Jackson and a historic win for them tonight. With two minutes remaining Miami Jackson connected on a long pass in the endzone to go ahead 12-9 with 2 minutes remaining. The Jackson defense did the rest holding one of the best offenses in the state to just 9 points. It’s about making bold moves for Miami Jackson. The bold decision to go with Brunson to lead the Generals was showcased in her bold play call to go for it all down by just three. Both bold decisions paid off for Miami Jackson as they got the win over the number one team in class 4A .

Booker T recently upset former #1 ranked St. Thomas Aquinas 27-23 earlier this year, and after the return of Head Coach Tim “Ice” Harris the team was looking to run the table like the days of old, spelling trouble for 4A foes like Raines and Bolles of Jacksonville.

Raines of course was defeated by Booker T last year in the 2015 Class 4A State Championship. Bolles was defeated by Booker T three consecutive years prior to that from 2012 to 2014. Bolles and Coach Corky Rogers was able to get the win against Booker T in the 2011 Championship.

It’s a common thing in Florida High School Football that Jacksonville and Miami will likely meet in the title game, but this year there are some regular season twists that make what happened down south in the regular season even more intriguing. Bolles is scheduled to play Miami Jackson September 23rd at home, the same team that took down Booker T tonight. You can bet Bolles was keeping an eye on that game for multiple reasons.

Raines was watching the Jackson game closely as well. If they want to return to the championship, they of course must go through Bolles, but many believe Booker T will be the team waiting on them once again. One thing is for certain, Coach “Kay Kay” Brunson and Defensive Coordinator Luther Campbell ” Uncle Luke” have sent shock waves throughout class 4A and the entire state tonight. Allowing many teams to gain confidence in knowing that Booker T however good, is not invincible.
