Duval Sports High School Players of the Week! Week #3

At six foot four, three hundred and thirty  pounds, Sandalwood offensive lineman Henry Brooks is an easy player to spot on Friday nights. But what makes him stand out more so than his size is his aggressive play on the field. imageAgainst Atlantic Coast in Week #3 , Brooks recorded 6 pancake blocks for Sandalwood. For those of you who may not be familiar with the term “pancake block”, it’s when a football player blocks another player and puts him on the ground. It’s not an easy feat to put an opposing player on their backside, but Brooks makes it look easy. He attributes his ability in the trenches to his work ethic in the weight room. He is one of the strongest on the team, and works hard to challenge the other players on the offensive line. That hard work began in the 8th grade when he first took up the game of football as a Star Ready Gator. Brooks size alone made him stand out then and now has him being sought after by many colleges. Some schools of interest include Indiana, Famu, and Michigan. This avid pizza lover sliced up Atlantic Coast last week, opening holes for Sandalwood to rush for over 200 yards.  225 of those yards were accumulated by his running back Logan Wright, who described the holes he runs through as like “putting a toy car in a parking spot”.  Brooks is a major reason the Saints are leading the area in rushing through three weeks. So keep your eye on Brooks this season as he is determined to show why he is one of the best offensive linemen in the state.

“The holes are incredible, it’s like you can drive a mack truck through. It’s like putting a toy car in a parking spot” – Sandalwood RB Logan Wright

Sandalwood scored 56 unanswered points against Atlantic Coast in week#3. Their All State running back Logan Wright scored 44 of those points with 6 touchdowns and 4 two point conversions. imageHe rushed for 225 yards on the day, carrying his team the blow out win over the Stingrays. Wright is a workhorse for Sandalwood. He rushed for over two thousand yards in 2015, and is on pace to exceed that mark this year. He has rushed for at least 200 yards in every game the Saints have played this season, including a 300 yard effort this past Friday against Spruce Creek. Wright is extremely humble, giving credit to his offensive line every chance he gets. That humility has been with him ever since he was five years old, playing football for the Southside Seahawks. He comes from a family of athletes as his siblings all play sports. His father played football at the University of  South Carolina, so Logan is in the bloodline of ballers. It’s no wonder his favorite Movie is “More than a Game”, because football is more than a game for him, its literally a way of life. Sometimes it seems like Wright is running for his life when he rushes the football. He runs down hill barreling over defenders, but possesses the speed in the open field to leave defenders in the dust. He has a skill set that most don’t posses and it’s the reason Sandalwood will lean on him to lead them to the playoffs.

Congratulations to teammates Henry Brooks and Logan Wright on being named Duval Sports Player’s of the Week!
