Northwestern- Gilbert opened their 2016 season with two consecutive road contests, and in both of the games they scored on the very first play from scrimmage. Against Northwestern Tuesday, RB Kevonte Doles opened the game with a five yard touchdown run to start the route. Doles is an explosive and powerful runner. He can gain yards after contact, but he can put it in fifth gear and out race you. Running back Larry Tould compliments him in the running game. He scored on a first half touchdown run showcasing his dynamic skill set as well. They are two of many weapons the Panthers put on display in this game, and the coaches want to make sure teams know they are not one dimensional.

Wide Receivers Chris Johnson, Dedrick Smith and Josh Jones both caught touchdown passes on the day, as their Quarterback Bryce Tompkins took to the air against Northwestern. The Yellow Jackets had no answer for anything the Panthers did on offense because their athletes were just on another level. Johnson added 3 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and 2 forced fumbles to go along with his touchdown. Smith garnered 4 tackles for loss and 2 fumble recoveries for the Panthers. Dominique Uylee recovered a fumble in the endzone for the defense to put his team up 34-0 in the second quarter.
Northwestern would put forth a valiant effort and they have some great kids on the field that give it everything they’ve got. Tramel Frazier #24 and #9 Josh Hagens are two athletes just to name a few. But Northwestern must perfect one side of the ball in order to come together as a team. Being shutout two weeks in a row means not much is working for them right now. In this game they would be on the clock in the second half, and barely crossed mid field all game as Gilbert dominated from start to finish.

It was an impressive performance for Gilbert as they earned their second consecutive shutout of the season winning 42-0. It bodes the question not if anyone will beat them this year, but who will be the first to even score on them this year? One thing is for certain, with the weapons they have on the field, its going to be a tall order for anyone to succeed.
