We are two weeks into the season now and we are starting to get a better feel for who the better teams are this season, who the surprise teams are and who is shockingly struggling.
Usual city powers Mandarin (0-2), Stilwell (0-2) and Oceanway (0-2) are all struggling and could miss out on the playoffs; while several other teams are having surprising seasons so far including Kirby Smith (2-0), JW Johnson (2-0), Dupont (2-0), Arlington (2-0) and Ribault (2-0).
Week 2 Middle School Rankings
- Gilbert (2-0): After a disappointing ending to last season, the Panthers are out for blood this season and have won both games easily so far with a pair of wins over Fletcher 30-0 and Northwestern 42-0.
- Twin Lakes (2-0): The defending city runner-ups have been impressive in wins over Stilwell 16-0 and Landmark 26-6.
- Arlington (2-0): The Vikings have taken advantage of other teams losing and taking care of themselves with wins over Mandarin 28-16 and Jeb Stuart 34-30.
- Ribault (2-0): The Colts have looked unstoppable so far, while the win over Oceanway 30-0 may have caught some peoples attention.
- Lakeshore (2-0): Don’t look now but Lakeshore is quietly creeping up the rankings with back-to-back shutout wins over Mandarin 42-0 and Landon 42-0.
- Fletcher (1-1): The defending city champs, bounced back nicely with a 24-16 win over Jeff Davis yesterday, a week after getting blown out by Gilbert 30-0.
- Kirby Smith (2-0): The Comets are not only racking up wins but blowing out their opposition as well with wins over Southside 48-0 and Highlands 28-0.
- Dupont (2-0): Nobody remembers the last time the Dragons were this good, but they have taken notice of this team after wins over Mayport 35-22 and Baldwin 28-0.
- JW Johnson (2-0): Another surprise team in the rankings this season but a solid start to the season with wins over Northwestern 35-0 and Kernan 30-8 has the attention of the city.
- Jeff Davis (1-1): The Chargers went toe-to-toe with the defending city champs before falling in a close one to visiting Fletcher. Keen an eye on the Chargers.
