King For A Week: Keshawn King Scores 4 TDs Again as Oakleaf Drills Fleming Island At The Rock

Fleming Island- Oakleaf running back Keshawn King ran for 300 yards and four touchdowns in his team’s 59-37 win over Fleming Island Friday night. Clay County is truly Keshawn King’s Kingdom. Last week King rushed for four touchdowns in his team’s blowout win over heir rivals the Clay Blue Devils. Seven days later King scored four touchdowns again in his team’s winning effort, this time against the Fleming Island Golden Eagles. He has truly had a week to remember.

The 3-7A district contest was a must win for both ball clubs as Fleming Island and Oakleaf both already had one district loss under their belts. Fleming lost to Bartram Trail, while Oakleaf suffered a district loss to Buchholz.

So both ball clubs knew what was at stake, yet early on Oakleaf seemed like they were the only ones that actually cared. The Knights built a 31 to 14 halftime lead over Fleming thanks to their high octane offense. Senior Quarterback Jordan Johnson hooked up with his sophomore wide receiver #11 Jamaric Bonner, senior WR #16 Jordan Madison, and senior WR Rontrez Morgan. Johnson is a constant threat with the ball in his hands, so defenses try to force the ball into the hands of his teammates.

This strategy has back fired of late, as the offense has designed plays for Johnson to get rid of the ball quickly whether it’s on passing plays or running plays, Johnson is distributing the ball to his play makers. The biggest beneficiary of this approach has been King.Against Fleming Island, King gashed the Golden Eagles defense. A defense that only gave up 10 points to a good Bartram team. He had a 65 yard run, and a 50 yard run in the game. By half time he had amassed nearly 250 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. He would add to that total before the night was over.

Fleming got scores from QB KB Ashe on a QB draw to tie the game at 7-7 but that’s as close as it would get. A Jackson Bull touchdown closed the gap to 3 points 17-14, yet Johnson and King would widen their team’s lead.

After halftime the action really picked up, especially for Fleming.

After the furious comeback in which Fleming Island scored 16 points in less than five minutes, the game which was once a blowout was only a touchdown apart. But Oakleaf’s playmakers slammed the door shut on any type of comeback. First it was King who led a 60 yard scoring drive in less than 1 minute to score his 3rd touchdown of the game.

Then it was defensive back Nick Roberts, who nabbed a pick 6 in the game, The interception stunned the Golden Eagle crowd as hey expected a miraculous comeback. After a KB Ashe 69 yard touchdown run by Fleming Island that shocked even Oakleaf’s Jordan Johnson,King would finish off his incredible night with a onsides kick return for the touchdown, his fourth of the game.

Coach Steve Reynolds and Oakleaf are rolling right now and playing their best football at the right time. With several other district contests coming up, the Knights are still alive in the playoff hunt. No one wants to see this team right now. As for Fleming Island, the playoffs will be a tall order as they have suffered two district losses. But Coach Springs has his team thinking positive. “I tell them to keep plugging away and keep fighting all season and let the chips fall where they may.
