Arlington Rains Down The Arsenal On Mayport

Arlington- LeJames Harris scored two touchdowns as Arlington Middle defeated Mayport Middle 28-8. As the Arlington home crowd looked on in their rain soaked clothes, their football team’s defense saturated Mayport with red. Where ever Mayport went, Arlington’s red jerseys were present. Their defense only yielded six points in the game, and that was the last play of the game when they allowed all sixth graders to play versus Mayport’s number ones. On that play Mayport’s Jacob Corley would run hard to the endzone to score his team’s lone touchdown.

It was a tough outing for the Mayport offense and talented running back Myles Montgomery. The Mayport Machine had come into the game rushing for over 400 yards and scoring eleven touchdowns in just his first three games. Without question he was the focus of the Arlington defense and they held him in check all game.

Arlington’s defensive line routinely shed blocks and met Mayport backs in the back field. They played tough and nasty all game, indicative of the nasty afternoon. The conditions caused several mishandles and fumbles, particularly on Mayport’s offensive possessions. Arlingon’s offense would make them pay for the lack of execution.

Along with the two touchdowns by Harris, Arlington;s Amari Sutton also scored on a nice run around the right side, blazing  past would be tacklers. Sutton is a load, and to be honest it didn’t look like the Mayport defenders wanted any parts of the bruising back. His score would put his team up 20-0 at halftime.

In the second half Arlington’s Jeremiah Hutley would put the cap on the night when he rushed 45 yards on a dazzling run to score a touchdown putting his team up 28-0. On the play Hutley ran left and reversed his field and ran back right. He recieved several key blocks from his offensive line and wide receivers who escorted him to the goal line. Jeremiah would do the rest, powering over a would be tackler to get into he endzone.

Mayport’s late score and safety would not be enough as Arlington opened the flood gates on offense and rained down the victory over their divisional opponent Tuesday evening.

With the win Arlington remains undefeated at 4-0. They are keeping pace with Fletcher who coming into the games tonight were also undefeated in their division. Fletcher did suffer a loss to their overall record week one, so Arlington has the overall record advantage.

If you were like me and wondered if Arlington was for real, they proved it tonight against a good Mayport team. A team that possessed the leading rusher in the city. They certainly showed tonight that they can compete wit the best in the city, and in doing so will make many proud along the way.
