Fort White moves to 2-0 in district play

FORT WHITE-Despite moving up the game two days, Fort White had little trouble with visiting Hilliard beating the Flashes 45-10 last night in District 6-1A action at Arrowhead Stadium.

It didn’t take long at all for the host Indians to establish a lead; in fact 13 seconds is all it took thanks to a great special teams play.

Just like that, Fort White was in the lead and in control of the game.  From there is only got worse.

After a quick three and out by Hilliard, Fort White struck again to go up two scores. Senior quarterback Demetric Jackson Jr. connected with fellow senior Shannon Showers for a quick strike.

Fort White struck again on it third possession of the game, as Jackson completed three straight passes, getting the Indians down to the 8-yard line.

Hilliard put together its best drive of the game but a turnover changed the field position and gave the Indians another score.

Again Hilliard was on the move and back in the red zone area again thanks to tailback Armani Scott and yet again another turnover proved costly.

For the third straight drive, Hilliard drove into the thirty and finally scored thanks to Lorenzo Morgan. Morgan picked up 18 yards on a carry and followed with another long run that along with a horse collar penalty put the Flashes inside the red zone.

The momentum was short lived though as the Indians quickly scored again thanks to Timmons and Jackson. Timmons returned the ensuing kickoff 47 yards and then Jackson and Showers hooked up to put the Indians at the 11-yard line.

Hilliard (3-3, 0-3) drove down the field again and back inside the 20-yard line before settling on a field goal to cut the halftime lead to 39-10.

Jacquez Pelham who scored two touchdowns in the second half of the win over Baldwin last week, stepped up in the third quarter to put Fort White well ahead.

Pelham broke free for a 19-yard touchdown run to give Fort White a 45-10 lead in the third quarter.

With a  running clock, the fourth quarter flew by and the Indians moved to 2-0 in District 6-1A and in control of the district.

Fort White (4-2, 2-0) travels to Union County next week to likely decide the District 6-1A title. Union County (2-3, 1-0) travels to Hawthorne (4-1, 1-1) tonight in another key 6-1A game.

With the loss, Hilliard (3-3, 0-3) was officially eliminated from the playoffs.
