Trinity Travels West In Advance of Hurricane Matthew: Wins 42-7 Over Godby

Tallahassee- In advance of Hurricane Matthew, Trinity Christian rescheduled their game with Godby for Thursday night, and switched the venue to the Big Bend area. A ride down I-10 on Thursday wasn’t your normal trip as many motorist hopped on the highway to get away from the path of the approaching hurricane. Though many were traveling to flee from the potential threat of harm, the Conquerors were traveling to fulfill a creed that their program lives by.. ” Any time, Any place, Any Where”. And they showed that creed to be true tonight.

Trinity and Godby would square off in Tallahassee going scoreless in the first quarter. The Conquerors would get on the board when Legend Brumbaugh took off and ran for a long touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7. Godby got on the board first when Samondre Johnson scored on a touchdown run capitalizing off the Trinity turnover. It would be all Trinity after their score. Running back Rasheed Martin then took it 30 yards for another Conquerors score as Trinity seemed to loosen up. They began to play with more enthusiasm and confidence, in particular Brumbaugh who had a spectacular game. In addition to running a touchdown, Legend Brumbaugh would also toss two touchdowns in the game. One to Shaun Wade who out raced the entire Godby team, and anther to Derrick Smith who out leaped the defender for a one handed 3 yard touchdown reception.

Brumbaugh was effective in putting the ball in the play maker’s hands and limiting mistakes, something that has plagued him this year. There were grumblings of Trinity possibly turning to D.J Mathews for more of a spark at the QB position. In fact, Mathews did get snaps under center and scored on a 5 yard touchdown run in the game. It’s a dynamic that Trinity embraces on their team, knowing that they can go to Mathews if needed. Yet Brumbaugh might’ve showed them that they didn’t need to make a permanent switch at signal caller, at least not tonight as Trinity rolled 42-7. Keyjuan Henderson would close out the night on a 43 yard touchdown run.

Trinity has IMG coming up in two weeks, but in the mean time TCA may be looking for another game to play. Could we possibly see a Trinity versus Sandalwood, Raines, or maybe even Bolles matchup next week? The last time a hurricane came through and messed up the high school schedules Trinity welcomed Columbia to a 34-0 shalacking in a impromptu showdown. Not sure if any other teams from our area want to share the Tiger’s fate in facing them.
