Lake Asbury, Oakleaf set to battle for NEFAC title

After eight weeks of regular season junior high football play, we have finally reached the end of the regular season and now head into the playoffs.

Clearly Lake Asbury Junior High was the top team in the conference after pounding Lakeside last night 36-0 to finish the regular season undefeated.

The Tigers ran through the South Division with ease with shut out wins over Bradford 14-0, Wilkinson 29-0 and Keystone Heights 41-0.

Oakleaf had a little tougher time in the North Division winning over Orange Park 28-20 in OT, Lakeside 26-20 and Green Cove 18-0.

Now comes the playoffs and a rematch of a regular season game just two weeks ago. Oakleaf (5-2) travels to Lake Asbury (7-0) Tuesday at 5 in the championship game.

The two met Oct. 11 in Oakleaf with the Tigers coming from behind to win 13-12 in the final minute of the game.

Tied at 6-6 with under a minute left, Oakleaf scored but missed the two point conversion. On the ensuing Lake Asbury play, the Tigers surprised the Yellow Jackets with a Hail Mary as Devon Grimes got behind the secondary and easily scored the game winner with 45 seconds left in the game.
