The 4-1 Arlington Vikings visited the 3-2 Landmark Seahawks on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon on Jacksonville’s south side. Arlington came into the game leading the division while Landmark sat just one game out of first place.
The game would be a slug fest at first, typical of a divisional contest between long time rivals. Mayport would go up early thanks to the athleticism of their team. Wide Receiver Trevon Hawkins (#3) makes hard plays look easy with his size and speed, and he continued this trend tonight.
But Landmark’s defense was not to be outdone on this afternoon. A noticeably undersized group, the Seahawks play with much heart and fire. In particular, their play at middle linebacker really kept them in the game throughout. But late in the fourth quarter the Viking’s size and speed eventually wore the Seahawks down.
First, a safety by Arlington made the score 10-0. Then after a Landmark punt, Arlington took just one play to get into the end zone. Running Back Davon Davis (#7) burst through the middle on a 15yd touchdown run putting the game out of reach. Davis is a true work horse, as he is leaned upon heavily to make plays for the Vikings.
His unique skill set of speed and power makes him hard to bring down, even for the fiery Seahawks Linebackers.
The Vikings would add another score to go up 24-0, scoring 16 unanswered points in just five minutes of play. With the win, Arlington improves to 5-1 and has the inside track to a division crown. Landmark was eliminated from contention for a division title with the loss.
