University Christian Wins Defensive Battle Over West Duval: Crowned City Champs

Everbank Field- In pee wee division two action, first year program University Christian faced West Duval for the city championship. For West Duval, they would return to the city championship after their junior peewee team on the city championship last year for the first time. University Christian was vying for their first.

University Christian came into the championship game 4-1 overall and 4-0 in their division. As the division champions, they would face the #2 team in the division West Duval, who also came into the contest with just one loss. Unfortunately for them, that loss was a division loss to the very same UC Soldiers 13-6. This time both teams wanted to establish themselves defensively to stop the other, and the game showed early on that this approach was successful.

UC would score first making it 6-0 at halftime, yet both defenses played stellar all game. UC’s unit led by Jackson Cowgill, Desirrio Railes, Reginald Green, and Darius Brady shut out West Duval. The defense prevented the big plays that West Duval was accustomed to making all year. The defense also made up for offensive mistakes that the West Duval defense forced the UC offense to make. It’s a compliment to Head Coach Thad Penland, Defensive Coordinator Casey Cowgill, and the entire UC staff.

Congratulations to the University Christian Soldiers on winning the Pop Warner Division 2 Pee Wee City Championship. It’s their first championship in their very first year, a remarkable feat for the players and volunteers.
