Lake Shore Defeats Grandpark in Junior Peewee Thriller!

Everbank Field- Last year everyone talked about a mighty mite team at Lake Shore Park that was extremely talented. Well that 2015 mighty mite team moved up to the junior pee wee level in 2016, and combined with an already talented group of players from Jacksonville’s west side. The end result, another championship for the prestigious park and a trip to the playoffs for one of Jacksonville’s most exciting teams.

It didn’t come easy for Lake Shore. They faced a Grandpark Junior PeeWee team who was just two years removed from their own city championship.  In fact it was Lake Shore who Grandpark defeated to become champions that year, so this contest was sure to be competitive and exciting. Lake Shore didn’t lose a game this season. At 6-0, the Raiders pillaged their schedule shutting out four teams and  playing two teams extremely close. One of those  close teams was Grandpark. Grandpark came into the championship game at 5-2, with one of their losses a 12-6 contest to Lake Shore. As good as the Vikings were on offense and defense this year, they would look to devise a game plan to get revenge on the team that gave them an L earlier in the season.. Early on it appeared to work.

In the title game, Grandpark jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a Derrick Snyder touchdown run. Grandpark would fail to get the conversion which would prove costly in the game. Late in the defensive contest with the Vikings nursing a touchdown lead, Lake Shore got a big stop on defense and mounted an offensive drive that put them at the 3 yard line of Grandpark. It  would be #4 Miller who plunged into the endzone from 3 yards out to tie the game. Lake Shore would convert on their extra point conversion and hold off the Vikings to win 7-6.

Division one is the best of the best teams in the country and Lake Shore validated their place among that elite by advancing to the regional playoffs. Congratulations to the Lake Shore Raiders, City Champions and headed to the regional playoffs.
