Ponte Vedra’s High Powered Offense Too Much For Yulee

Ponte Vedra- Quarterback Nick Tronti took just four plays to score his first of four touchdowns on the night. A touchdown pass to Hal Swan was the beginning of the end for Yulee in the first round of this class 5A playoff game. Ponte Vedra unleashed a fury of plays on offense and defense that absolutely overwhelmed the run heavy ground and pound attack from Yulee.

It was a total team effort for the Sharks. Cole McCormick intercepted a Brandon Kline pass from Yulee setting up his team in great field position. Tronti would then take a QB draw 10 yards up the middle for his second touchdown of the game in just four minutes into the contest. Later in the game Ponte Vedra would get a touchdown on a blocked punt by Duncan Van Kouteren, and a scoop and score by Jake McGuire. Ponte Vedra scored from every facet of the team.

Down 14-0 was an unfamiliar place for Yulee. The 5A runner ups usually control the clock with their power running game and senior runningback Jamari Peacock. However, Ponte Vedra rendered their offense ineffective by forcing them to play catch up. Yulee was not only unable to play catch up, they were unable to even get in the game. Runningback Hal Swan made sure of that. Swan rushed for 120 yards and scored two touchdowns in the first half alone. Swan’s second touchdown was a run up the gut 7 yards as he picked his way through the Hornets defense.

Yulee finally got on the board in emphatic fashion. Jamari Peacock rushed for a 2yd touchdown to get his team on the board. But Peacock wasn’t finished just yet. He bust a 60 yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter showing his mix of power and break away speed on the play. Peacock would add a final touchdown on his final carry to score all three scores for the Hornets. He finished with 210 yards rushing to go with three touchdowns in the losing effort.

Tronti would add another touchdown run in the game and finish the scoring effort on the night with a signature play. A screen pass to Jack McGuire who took it 60 yards for the touchdown. Coach Matt Toblin dialed up the screen passes all game, taking advantage of an aggressive front 7 for Yulee. It was effective, as Ponte Vedra would dominate the contest 51-19.

Ponte Vedra will now face Ribault in the second round of the playoffs. Ribault defeated Bishop Kenny 14-13 Friday night to set up a rematch from last year. Ribault defeated Ponte Vedra before losing to Suwanee in the second round. Ponte Vedra will be ready to enact revenge over the team that ended their season a year ago.
