Bolles-  Some predicted a Bolles win, some predicted a Raines win, but none predicted a 30 point blowout in the second round of the class 4A FHSAA playoff game between the Bolles Bulldogs and the Raines Vikings.Yet that’s what we all witnessed, a 60-20 shellacking by the Bulldogs. For the fourth consecutive year and fifth time in the last six years, fans were treated to another second round meeting between Raines and Bolles. And though the two teams were very familiar with each other having met 17 times since 1996, the game played out as if one team had not seen the other previously.

The Raines Vikings were helpless early on in the contest unable to mount anything on offense or stop anything on defense. Bolles would score with a little over 7 minutes to play in the first quarter on a swing pass from Quarterback Mac Jones to Runningback E.J Porter to go up 7-0.  Bolles would next get a score from runningback Jaylen McCloud who scored on the ground to make it 14-0.  Bolles would have the Vikings backed up deep into their territory when #30 KyleCoffindaffer sacked Quarterback Ivory Durham for a safety putting Bolles up 16-0.

Bolles was not finished yet. At the start of the second quarter Bolles used Amari Terry to gain big chunks of yards and loosen up the Vikings porous defense.  The end result was a sort touchdown run by Mac Jones, his second score of the night as Bolles all of sudden lead 23-0 early. After another Bulldog stop, Bolles would score their 30th unanswered point of the half on another short touchdown run making the score 30-0 in the second quarter.

The stunned crowd off San Jose Blvd saw a Bulldog team force the Vikings into plays that would bit them in the end. Sacks, mishandles and lack of execution plagued the Vikings until they received a spark from kick returner Jammon Handy. Handy bust a 50 yard kick return to set up the Vikings first score of the game. A 44 yard touchdown pass from Ivory Durham IV to WR George Webb making the score 30-6 Bolles.

After the Raines defense forced a punt, Durham would drive down the field and find #11 Jakaree Gadsden for another touchdown pass  making the score 30-13. What seemed like an insurmountable lead shrunk even lower when Raines got a fumble off Bolles and hit Willie Wright on a short touchdown pass. The pass ignited the Raines sideline and team which previously trailed by thirty points, now found themselves down only 10. 30-20. Bolles would add a field goal to lead at half time 33-20.

The momentum that Raines built heading into halftime all but dissipated in the second half as Bolles again scored 30 unanswered points. Jaylen McCloud started the quarter with a 60 yard touchdown run (40-20). A blocked punt by Jack Lundren set up an Amari Terry touchdown run (47-20). Jaylen McCloud’s fourth touchdown run of the game, a 25 yard scamper put Bolles up 53-20. And fittingly the rushing law firm of McCloud & Terry closed out the scoring as a 30 yard run by McCloud set up another TD run by Terry  (60-20).

Bolles ran around, through and over the Raines Vikings to the tune of over 400 yards rushing including 260 yards by Jaylen McCloud ( offer from Famu ). On defense, they punished the Raines ball carriers and created turnovers fueling the offense. Defensive back Ahman Ross made several key plays in the secondary, and LB Evan McGee got after it as the Bulldogs dialed up blitzes to harass Raines Quarterbacks. Durham IV was replaced by Jakaree Gadsden in the third quarter in an attempt to create a spark, but none would be had on this night for Raines. They played shell shocked like they had never seen this Bolles team before. It was not the performance the team anticipated on putting on the field Friday night. The Vikings bowed out of the playoffs in the second round with a sourly and bitter taste in their mouths.

As for Bolles they move on to face South Sumpter ( Bushnell) at home next Friday in the State Semifinals. They are one game from returning to the state championship for the second time in three years. If they win they will await the winner of Booker T Washington and Cocoa. Washington the defending Class 4A champions who defeated Bolles and Raines in consecutive title games. With a showing like this against Raines, the Bulldogs have a strong shot of taking it all the way.
