Bolles Barely Survives South Sumter; Advances To State Championship

Jacksonville Fl- The Bolles Bulldog season almost came to a disastrous end last night against a never quit South Sumter team. With win number 465 for Corky Rogers, Bolles moves on to play Cocoa for the 4A State Championship on December 8th in Orlando.

Bolles has played against South Sumter in 93, 02, 06, 08, 11 and 12 so these teams were no strangers to each other.

Bolles started the game with a 94 yard punt return by Amari Terry for a TD to take a 7-0 lead. Bolles followed that with 2 more TD’s to take a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. South Sumter caught a break in the second quarter with a roughing the kicker penalty on a FG attempt to give South Sumter a 1st down at the 12 yard line of Bolles. A few plays later and South Sumter had cut the lead down to 21-7. Bolles kicked a FG to take a 24-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Jaylen McCloud and Amari Terry put on a clinic during the 1st half and the third quarter started the same way with McCloud breaking free for a long TD. Bolles led 31-7 with 8:36 left in the third quarter.

After the Bolles TD, South Sumter took the kickoff 68 yards back for a TD. The PAT failed and Bolles held onto a 31-19 lead going into end of the third quarter.

South Sumter, realizing a trip to the State Championship was on the line began to play like a team on a mission. Sumter moved the ball quickly down the field to score a TD cutting the lead down to 31-26 with 2:29 left to play.South Sumter tried an onsides kick and recovered giving the Raiders one last opportunity to win. South Sumter methodically moved the ball down to the Bolles 12 yard line with 1:36 left to play. Sumter using a hurry up offense gained a first down and moved the ball inside the five yard of Bolles.

The game came down to one play; a fourth down for South Sumter from inside the Bolles one yard line with 13 seconds to play. South Sumter went over the top and was met by a slew of Bulldogs that prevented them from scoring, sending Bolles to the 4A State Championship game. Bolles hopes of getting their 12th championship remains alive with their incredible ending. It could be another incredible ending for legendary Coach Corky Rogers, if they can win their 12th stat
