Bolles Can’t Stop Cocoa Rushing Attack In State Championship

Orlando, FL- The Bolles Bulldogs fell to Cocoa 31-17 in the FHSAA Class 4A Championship. Cocoa’s Javian Hawkins started the game quick for the Tigers with a 70 yard touchdown run to put them up 7-0. The rushing attack for the Tigers dominated the game. Lasedrick King rushed the second touchdown for Cocoa to make it 14-0. Bolles finally got on the board with a touchdown catch by EJ Porter from Quarterback Mac Jones to close the game to 14-7. However. the Bolles defense wasn’t able to stop the Tigers on the ensuing drive as Bruce Judson bust a 75 yard touchdown run with 6:57 left in the 2nd quarter to make it 21-7. They would add a field goal to make it 24-7.

Bolle’s defense had been good against the run this year but not in this game. They were gashed for over 200 yards rushing in the first half. At one point, the Tigers had 235 yards on just 18 carries, without attempting a single pass in the game. Bruce Johnson finished with 158 yards rushing and a TD, Lasedrick King racked up 132 yards and 2 TDs, and Javian Hawkins had 118 yards and a touchdown for Cocoa. The Tigers finished with 425 yards rushing and 0 passing yards. Yes you read that correctly, Cocoa only attempted one pass in the entire game as their runnning game dominated from start to finish.

Bolles would get some offense in the second half thanks to Amari Terry and Jalen McCloud. McCloud led the team in rushing with 91 yards and his hard running enabled the Bulldogs to get a field goal to make the score 24-10 in thee third quarter. After the Bolles defense got their first stop of the game in the third quarter, Terry used his nifty running (8 attempts 31 yds) to get Bolles in scoring position again. Yet the Bolles offense was stopped on 4th down taking the air out of the sails of the Bulldogs.

Cocoa’s Lasedrick King would close the game out on another long run, this time 73 yards to pay dirt slamming the door for any attempt of a Bolles comeback. EJ Porter would add a short touchdown run in the fourth but it was too little too late as the Bolles Bulldogs fell 31-17.

It was a memorable season for the Bulldogs going 12-1 and finishing as Class 4A State Runner Ups. Questions will loom this off season if Corky Rogers will come back for another season at Bolles. Bolles has some very talented players returning like juniors like 6ft 8 inch 385lb OL Nic Lewis. But for seniors like Mac Jones ( Alabama commit), Ahman Ross ( undecided) and Amari Terry (undecided) it was the last time they’d wear the Blue and Grey of Bolles. As for Cocoa it capped a memorable season where they defeated two of the best teams in Northeast Florida (Bolles and Trinity). Their defeat of Booker T in the State Semifinals and domination of the state championship game, cemented them as truly the best team in their talented football class.
