We’re heading into the home stretch of the regular season. Some teams are vying for playoff spots while others are playing for pride. Let’s take a look at what went down yesterday in Duval.
Baldwin Middle-Senior High School: 0
Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership: 52
Stillwell remained atop their division with an impressive victory over the winless Warriors. Their impressive offensive showing bodes well for them if it comes down to a tie breaker with them and James Weldon Johnson.
Southside Middle School: 18
Darnell Cookman Middle School: 6
Southside rebounded nicely after last week’s showing with a win against Darnell Cookman. Both teams are looking to finish strong down the stretch.
Fletcher Middle School: 48
Fort Caroline Middle School: 12
Fletcher remains in the hunt for their division title as they took care of Ft.Caroline. They must win and hope for an Arlington loss next week to have any shot at the division.
Mayport Coastal Sciences Middle School: 20
Kernan Middle School: 0
In a tough divisional match up on Tuesday, Mayport defeated Kernan 20-0. Mayport methodically marched down the field on Kernan each quarter commanding a 14-0 lead going into the fourth quarter. Kernan’s defense stood up in the third, but eventually succumbed to the size and speed of Mayport.
Highlands Middle School: 16
Northwestern Middle School: 6
Highlands continues their roll as they won their third straight over Northwestern. Credit goes out to the coaching staff for galvanizing the team.
Eugene Butler Middle School: 6
Jean Ribault Middle School: 26
Ribault rebounded nicely versus Butler this week. A tough emotional contest versus Gilbert last week didnt leave them unfocused on the task at hand.
Jefferson Davis Middle School: 0
James W. Johnson Middle School: 26
James Weldon Johnson keeps the suspense brewing in the West Division as they defeated Jefferson Davis to remain tied with Stillwell for the division lead. It will come down to the final week next week.
Lake Shore Middle School: 14
J.E.B. Stuart Middle School: 0
Lake Shore defeated Jeb Stuart to win their third game of the season. This was considered an upset by some as JEB Stuart came into the contest with a better record. But cudos to Lake Shore for ignoring records and playing hard the last few weeks. JEB Stuart will look to get back to their winning ways against Stillwell next week. Unfortunately, with the loss they were eliminated from playoff contention.
Mandarin Middle School: 30
Twin Lakes Middle School: 12
Mandarin wrapped up Twin Lakes and with it a division title on Tuesday. Mandarin remained undefeated on the season and will represent the south division in the city playoffs.
Matthew Gilbert Middle School: 20
Oceanway Middle School: 0
Gilbert also clinched their division with the win over Oceanway. At 6-0 and 61 wins in a row, the representatives from the North division are highly favored to win it all.
