Carol City wins first state title since 2003, 5th overall

ORLANDO-Carol City used a suffocating defense and just enough offense to win its first state title since 2003 and fifth overall in a 14-6 win over Lake Gibson at Camping World Stadium.

Locked in a scoreless tie at the half, Nyquan Wright changed all of that. Wright rumbled 51 yards before being tackled at the 1-yard line.

Wright followed that with a 1-yard run to give the Chiefs a 6-0 lead with 5:37 left in the third.

Zion Hartfield picked off Kevaris Thompson and returned it 27 yards back to the 7-yard line.

Wright creeped in from a yard to give the Chiefs a 14-0 lead seconds into the fourth quarter.

Lake Gibson made it interesting scoring two drives later as Kevaris Thompson connected with Mytrevious Link for a 20-yard strike cutting the lead to 14-6 with six minutes let.

After holding the Chiefs to a three and out, the Braves had one final drive to try to tie it.

Thomas desperation pass thrown into triple coverage was picked off by Irshaad Davis at midfield, which set off a wild celebration on the Carol City sideline.

Carol City (11-3) which had been living in the shadows of Central and Northwestern, can finally earn the respect they deserve winning their fifth state title.

Of course, Carol City most famous alumnus rapper Rick Ross was on the sideline. Ross spent most of his time taking pictures and intensely watching the game.
