JACKSONVILLE-The 2016-2017 Middle School athletic year came to a close recently, not without several notable achievements though. From Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties we recognize some of the best moments of the school year.

We start today with the honorable mention list and will release the Top Ten moments over the next couple of days.

Landon had quite a year winning three county titles over the last half of the year including girls soccer, softball and golf.

Here are some of the best stories of the year from baseball, softball and volleyball.

Baseball

Twin Lakes finished a perfect 14-0 after a grueling 3-2 win June 2 over James Weldon Johnson at home in the championship game. The Timberwolves held off Kernan 6-5 in the semifinals while James Weldon Johnson defeated Kirby Smith in the other semifinal.

Softball

Like the Twin Lakes boys, Landon battled numerous weather postponements before finally winning the county softball title in June. The Lions finished a remarkable 14-0 on the season and also won the South Division title as well.

Girls Volleyball

Back in the October, the girls volleyball tournament was held and Mandarin came out on top winning the county title with a win over Kernan at Atlantic Coast High; while James Weldon Johnson took home the third place trophy with a win over Kirby Smith.
