ORANGE PARK-The 2017 Clay County Junior High Track & Field Championships and the Northeast Florida Athletic Conference championships were held Friday April 28, pitting some of the best junior high school athletes against each other.
There were many athletes who achieved personal bests in individual competitions, yet the ultimate goal for everyone was to have their team crowned 2017 champions.
The Oakleaf boys and girls track & field teams won the championship in 2016, yet two new teams would achieve this feat in 2017 in the Lake Asbury girls and Lakeside boys. Although only two teams could be crowned champions, there certainly was no shortage in talent at the meet.
Lakeside stunned Oakleaf to win the boys title with 79 points, while Bradford was third with 49 points, Green Cove was fourth, Wilkinson was fifth with 30, Lake Asbury was sixth and Orange Park in last with 8 points.
