JACKSONVILLE-We caught on to St. Johns Middle School football late in the season, but we didn’t miss one of the biggest upsets of the year.
Heading into an open week, Gamble Rogers chose to keep its all of its momentum going by scheduling University Christian in a non conference game on the road in Jacksonville.
The result was a surprising 39-26 win for the visiting Stingrays, in what is believed to be the first St. Johns County middle school win over a Duval County middle school program.
The win coupled with a 24-20 win over No. 4 Landrum the week before put the Stingrays at 7-1 and gave them a lot of confidence going into the playoffs as the No. 2 overall seed.
