Ponte Vedra named Top Girls Athletic Program of the Year

JACKSONVILLE-An unbelievable balanced sports programs has helped Ponte Vedra claim the Top Girls Athletic Program for the 2016-2017 school year.

Ponte Vedra won the title with 680 points by having state runner-up finishes in volleyball, third place in golf and Final Four appearances in basketball, lacrosse, cross country, tennis and softball.

Bolles finished second  with 600 points despite state titles in swimming and track, state runner-up finishes in cross country and soccer and a Final Four appearance in volleyball.

Runner-up finishes in soccer and cheerleading, along with a Final Four appearance in tennis and fifth place in cross country and an Elite 8 finish in volleyball helped the Creekside Knights finish third overall along with playoff appearances in basketball, track and softball.

Points are rewarded for how teams finished in the FHSAA state playoff series in each sport with points distributed for state titles (100), runner-up (90), third place (85), fourth place or Final Four appearance (80) fifth place (75), sixth place (70), seventh place (65), eighth place or Elite 8 appearance (60), ninth place (55) and tenth place (50).

A Sweet 16 appearances is worth 40 points, finishing 17th-23 nets 35 points, while finishing 24th-32 or a first round playoff appearance is worth 30 points.

Fourteen sports were tabulated for the girls including bowling, cross country, golf, volleyball, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, weightlifting, flag football, baseball, lacrosse, tennis and track.
