After a grueling hot summer it’s hard to believe Week 2 is already here. We have just the antidote to kick off the season with a solid lineup of games. This week we take a look at Sandalwood at Fleming Island, , Bartram Trail at Mainland, Glades Central at Oakleaf, , Trinity at Ribault, Creekside at Ridgeview.
Sandalwood (0-1) at Fleming Island (1-0)
Outlook: Rebuilt Sandalwood defense gave potent Ribault offense all they could handle last week coming up a few yards short of pulling the upset. Now the task begins to shut down another high powered offense that is coming off a blow out win over Clay. While it wasn’t that surprising Fleming beat Clay, the margin was shocking to say the least. Antonio Clary and RJ McCorker will have his hands full with the Eagles defense featuring Ryan Smenda. How will the Saints defense contain playmakers Dean Hyams, Jackson Bull and Dewayne McBride.
Bartram Trail (0-1) at Mainland (1-0)
Outlook: This one is worth the hour drive south, the chance to catch two of the premiere teams in the state battling it out at Municipal Stadium is priceless. The Bears rallied from 28 points and came with in one play of upsetting Cartersville, who has now won 32 in a row. Do the Bears have anything left in the tank for a showdown with state power Mainland ? Mainland reloaded after losing several seniors from last years deep playoff run. One thing is for sure, there won’t be a shortage of athletes in this one.
Glades Central (0-1) at Oakleaf (1-1)
Outlook: Jessie Hester and the Legion of Doom defense come to Clay County looking to get back on the winning track after dropping a 13-7 defeat to Fort Lauderdale last week. Tonight’s assignment will be tough one though trying to contain tailback Keshawn King and receiver Jakari Williams. The Knights offense got back to doing what they do best grinding the clock and punching teams in the mouth something they will have to repeat against the physical Raiders defense.
Trinity (0-1) at Ribault (1-0)
Outlook: Trinity went toe-to-toe with state power Cocoa last week before falling 24-21, after a wild third quarter which saw 28 points scored. The young offense continues to be a work in progress although the passing game of Austin Thomas and Isaiah Washington was a bright spot last week. Look for tailbacks Marcus Crowley and Kyjuan Herndon to fare a little better against a rebuilt defensive line. Look for the trio of Jhaamal Marsh, Kenneth Channelle and Mike McCray to get back on track, although the trio will have their hands full with the secondary featuring Chamarri Conner, Fred Davis, Tyreke Johnson and Miles Brooks.
Creekside (1-0) at Ridgeview (1-0)
Outlook: When the season began, no way did I imagine how big of a game this would be, shows you what a tremendous job Cameron Porch and Sean McIntyre are doing at their respective programs so far. Combined the two programs had lost 40 consecutive game going into last week, but both of those streaks are gone and now one of them will now be on a two game winning streak. Which offense will exploit the other better ? This one could be come a track meet with playmakers Tyler Duff, Jaiden Turner and Kiran Turner from Ridgeview and Tai Lavatai and JT Wood from Creekside.
