The 11-1 Lake Mary Rams fell to the 12-0 First Coast Buccaneers on Friday in the second round of the Florida HJigh School Athletic Association Playoffs. The Bucs started early with a 31-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Then it was time from their offense to get to work. Deandre Johnson tossed a deep pass to his left down the sideline for WR Kevin Stepherson for a touchdown.
Next, Johnson would throw a short pass to his right to WR D.J Mathews who did the rest racing down the right sideline for the TD.
The first half was capped off by another TD pass thrown by Johnson to Tristan Payton for a 43-yard touchdown that gave First Coast a 35-14 halftime lead. Lake Mary was able to get on the board with two TD runs by Charles Lamar and Cannon Thompson.
The second half was much of the same, as Stepherson took a kickoff return all the way back for the TD, virtually cementing the win for the Bucs. DeAndre Johnson continues his record setting season at Quarterback for the Buccaneers tossing touchdown passes from every angle of the field.
Of course having three Wide Receivers like Stepherson, Payton and Williams doesn’t hurt either.
With the win, First Coast will face Apopka in the Class 8A Regional Finals. Apopka defeated West Orange 42-0, and averages just over 40 points per game, while the Buccaneers average just over 37 points per game.
