New Season, New Coach, New Results for Northwestern Over YMLA

Northwestern MS- The first game of middle school football season for Northwestern and YMLA saw Northwestern come out with the win. With great effort and energy, the team dawning black and yellow played hard like the Steelers Steel curtain until they got their victory. The defensive performance started once #9 Darian Jones recovered a fumble. This seemed to give Northwestern confidence rendering them unstoppable. #2 Jeffry Jackson got an interception in the game to also set the tone for the Northwestern defense. Jones and Jackson played very aggressively all night to help contribute to their first win of the season making them 1-0.

The starting quarterback from YMLA (Butler) #8 Justin Bland was observed getting a little frustrated, but he didn’t give up. He played tough throughout the entire game, but just couldn’t make his way into the end zone for any touchdowns on this evening.

YMLA (Butler) tried their best to keep up and stop the rushing attack of Northwestern, but #2 Cameron Jones was just too quick. Jones had the only two touchdowns in the entire game. He scored one touchdown per half with the finishing score being 12-0. Unfortunately, Northwestern has not solidified the kicking position yet, so they went for the 2 points but neither was good.

This was an amazing season opener for Northwestern Middle School and their first year head coach. They look to advance to 2-0 on the season versus against Highlands next week. YMLA(0-1) will face Ribault
