Several local high school teams competed for the chance to advance to the State semifinals next week. Tonight was the regional finals, and for First Coast, Bishop Kenny, Oakleaf, Trinity, Bolles and Ed White it was win or go home. Only two teams advanced to the States Finals. Bolles (10-2) 34 vs Madison County (10-3) 15
Bolles visited Madison County for a 4A playoff matchup. The Bulldogs won a big time game last week versus Raines and played back to back games against storied programs. The Cowboys have always been formidable opponents throughout the years. Bolle’s history is one of the best in the state and their efforts this year are on par with their legacy. A true battle for the ages will be
up next for Bolles after their win as they face Booker T Washington for the fourth year in a row! Congratulations to Coach Corky Rogers and his players and staff for once again making it to the Finals!
Apopka (8-4) 64 vs First Coast (12-0) 48
Undefeated First Coast hosted Apopka tonight in the 8A State playoffs. First Coast had been flying high with their high octane air attack. Apopka has grounded out tough victories all year and looked to try and keep this game close enough to win it in the fourth. They did that and then some. The Blue Darters matched the Buccaneers offense as they ran all over the Bucs defense. First Coast struggled in the second half as Apopka kept the pedal down. The loss ends the season for QB De’Andre Johnson of First Coast. For his career he has 131 career TD passes, as First Coast bows out before the championship.

Godby (10-2) 35 vs Bishop Kenny (11-1) 14
Bishop Kenny hosted Godby of Tallahassee in a 5A State Playoff matchup. District champion Bishop Kenny had seemingly gotten better the more they played in these playoffs with their win over Clay. And the incredible play making skills of Charles Wade always keeps them one play away from changing games. They needed a big effort against Godby but fell just short of what they needed. The Cougars only losses this year came to Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) and Marist (Atlanta). So they were well prepared for a big game tonight. They raked up chunks of yardage on screen plays and read options in a high octane hurry up style offense. To much for BK. Godby made their second trip to Duval county this year more memorable than the first when they lost to Trinity. As for Kenny their memorable season came to an end.

Lakeland Christian (11-1) 28 vs Trinity Christian (10-2) 42
The Conquerors of Trinity won a big game against Trinity Catholic last week in Ocala. We believed that game would be their toughest test to face in this year’s playoffs. Boy were we mistaken as Lakeland Christian came in clicking on all cylinders! Lakeland was a team with no common opponents to Trinity, and no history of playing, so Lakeland had the element of surprise against Trinity. But Tyreke Johnson and Kevin Tolliver started a pick party (4), including Johnson returning one for a TD late in the game. In the end we were right about our prediction as Trinity will keep marching toward the State Finals.

Niceville (10-2) 35 vs Oakleaf (12-0) 0
Oakleaf hosted Niceville in a 7A playoff game this evening. Oakleaf has earned the respect of every program locally, as they have faced them head on and defeated them. Now it was time to see how they fared against a team from Florida’s panhandle, a team known for their tough play and top play makers. Two pretty evenly matched teams faced off on Friday night, but one was clearly more prepared than the other. Niceville dominated this contest and forced the Knights into costly turnovers. Oakleaf’s undefeated season came to an end to a very good team.

Ed White (10-2) 14 vs Choctawhatchee (10-2) 38
The Commanders ventured away from home this week and visited Ft.Walton Beach. Ed White had stayed true to their ground and pound roots all year and forced Choctawhatchee to stop it. The Indians did just that on this evening. ChocTaw sported an impressive record coming into the contest but many believed the Commanders were to talented for them. Home field advantage was definitely a factor as Choctaw played inspired football in front of their home crowd. It was to much to overcome for their opponents from Duval County. Ed White falls just short of their attempt to finally advance to a state title game.
