Raines H.S-Homecoming games are usually games that are scheduled against not so difficult opponents. Raines used six players to score six of their 10 offensive touchdowns in routing the undermanned and inexperienced Jackson Tigers 78-0.
For the second straight game, the Vikings scored the three or more times in the first quarter. The first coming on a 37 yard punt return by senior receiver and return specialist George Webb at the 9:40 mark in the first quarter. It was his first of three scores on the night. Following that score, the Raines defense kept giving the Raines offense good field position, as they scored three more times within a matter of four minutes.
Quarterback Ivory Durham (8 of 10, 206 yards, 3 TD’s) took a 1 yard run and made the score 14-0. Within two minutes, junior running back Brandon Marshall darted to paydirt on a 17 yarder. Then Durham found Devarus Thomas on a 38 yard toss to complete the scoring parade in the first quarter, for a 27-0 lead. Give credit to the offensive line, who opened holes in the Tiger defense, which allowed for several scores to occur quickly, and without much resistance. If scoring 27 points seems like a lot to produce in 12 minutes, Raines found the endzone five times in the second quarter, totaling 37 points. It would have been six had Viking defenders recorded a bobbled snap in the Tiger endzone had they not overrun the play, recording a safety.Second quarter scoring included Webb scoring on a 2 yard run and a 51 yard reception (which gave him 90 all-purpose yards and three scores), Raynell Killian tallied a 15 yard run, RayQuan Simmons scored from the six yard line, and Kamaree Noble cashing in on a 38 yard pass from Durham. Making it 64-0 at the intermission.Place kicker Ishmael Sanders converted 10-of 11 PAT’s to set a school record for most conversions in a single game.
While there were a few plays that showed what the future of Jackson (1-4) football could look like, the game was completely controlled by the Raines offense and defense all night. Jackson was held to minus 31 total offensive yards, as Diop Kee and Elijah Spivey continued to lead the way on defense. Raines produced 343 total offensive yards. If there was any minus to the Vikings win, it would be the 90 yards of penalties.
After halftime, the running clock rule was implemented, and Coach Deran Wiley substituted many of his reserve players to finish out the game. Sophomore quarterback Colby Bates scored on an 8 yard dash, then threw to Thomas on a 37 yard busted play for Raines’ final score of the game late in the third quarter.

Raines (4-1) showed class and compassion by running the clock out in the fourth quarter on their last possession, to bring an end to Homecoming 2017. This was the largest winning margin in school history, and recording only five total first downs was also a school record (4 rushing, 1 passing).
Next up for Raines will be the Saints of Sandalwood (1-4) next Friday at home. Jackson will face Terry Parker (1-4) in an attempt to gain their second win on the season.
