Dupont Middle School- Kysaun Jones (#21) scored two touchdowns to lead the Dupont Dragons to a 20-0 victory over Southside middle in week#2 of the Duval County Middle School Football season. Jone’s first touchdown came on a kick off return in the game, where he raced 55 yards to pay dirt. It was Dupont’s first score on special teams on the season. Jones would later haul in a 52 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback #14 Tyrez Fluellen for his second score of the game.
The individual effort by Jones mirrored the efforts of his fellow teammates as they completely overwhelmed Southside. Fluellen would also score two touchdowns in the game, scoring on a quarterback sneak in the second quarter to go along with his big touchdown pass to Jones. #30 Carmelo Murphy and #18/ #36 Christian Ellis would gain big chunks of yards on running plays to set up scoring plays on offense, but their efforts on defense set the tone for the team. Ellis forced two fumbles on the day, one of them stopping a promising drive by Southside, and Murphy made the hit of the day which completely deflated their opponent. It was the second shutout of the year for Dupont, setting up a southside showdown this Tuesday with division rival Twin Lakes. Twin Lakes has won the division the last two years, and have dominated the overall record with Dupont in recent years. This year has the Dragons optimistic about their chances, they’ll have to wait until Tuesday to see if this is finally their year.
