Teams Making Moves in our Week #3 Duval County Middle School Football Power Rankings

After a week of upsets, the week #3 power rankings have been turned upside down! An unbelievable slate of games last week created scenarios and outcomes that revealed a lot about several teams. There’s been lots of movement this week as one team claims what they believed was rightfully theirs. The #1 spot in our Power Rankings.

1. Gilbert (2-0)

We finally got the chance to see a common opponent between Ribault and Gilbert. Ribault played Kirby Smith week #1 and defeated them 44 -12. Gilbert played Kirby last week and beat them 38-0. To shut out a Kirby Smith team with some weapons is extremely impressive. Because of this Gilbert moves into the top spot! Welcome home Panthers, welcome home!

2. Ribault (3-0)

The Colts trotted all over Highlands 41-6 last week. Running back Javari Williams scored on a TD run and big Jerome Manning scored on another TD run to lead the charge for Ribault. They might have fallen in the rankings but not by much. This team is still very good going into their bye week.

3. Dupont (3-0)

Dupont upset defending south division champions Twin Lakes last week 14-12. The Dragons defense gave up their first points of the season in the game but held the Twin Lakes offense to just six points. The Timberwolves had averaged 30 points a game coming into their contest. Defeating Twin Lakes and Mandarin two top 10 teams in the city moves this team up three spots! As one head coach from another team commented last week, ” Dupont looks like they have some athletes”. Yes they do Coach…. Yes they do!

4. Landmark(3-0)

With their surprise upset of Fletcher last week, Landmark shocked the County. But they didn’t shock themselves. This is an extremely confident bunch of kids and it shows in their attitude on and off the field. The Seahawks move up five spots and are now on the radar of the top teams in each division. They face Arlington today in a battle of the unbeaten.

5. Jeff Davis (3-0)

Jeff Davis keeps on winning and secured a tough 10-0 win over Lake Shore who played a must win game last week. Kaloun Walker scored the only touchdown of the gritty contest. Quarterback Jalen Sonnier is leading Jeff Davis to a 3-0 start. Their best start in years.

6. J.E.B Stuart (3-0)

Don’t look now but Jeb Stuart is also undefeated after shutting out Stilwell last week. The question is, who is the top team in the west division? J.E.B Stuart has a chance to answer that question next week versus Jeff Davis.

7. Arlington (3-0)

Arlington doesn’t win with a lot of points, but they win nonetheless. 14-0 shutout of Ft. Caroline keeps them unblemished going into their biggest game of the year. Nope it’s not Fletcher, its this week against Landmark!

8. Twin Lakes (2-1)

Twin Lakes drops in our rankings after narrowly falling to Dupont last week. The Timberwolves had a chance to win the game last week, but their running back was tackled by his own man while heading for the go ahead touchdown run. I know Coach Gamble and his staff are still shaking their heads over that one. Southside better look out this week, its some mad wolves coming.

9. Fletcher (2-1)

Fletcher may have underestimated Landmark a little after jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. They had average 30 points a game and not yielded a single point to their opponent before last week’s loss.  This team is ready to bounce back and will take on Mayport this week.

10. Mandarin (2-1)

After being shutout by Dupont in week #1, Mandarin has been on a roll. They have size and a some speed and looks like they are playing with more confidence as the season goes on. I bet they wish they had a crack at Dupont again, the outcome may be different a second time around. Alas, they can only go forward and Landon is next on the clock.

Honorable Mention: Kirby Smith (1-2), Highlands (1-1), Mayport , Lake Shore (1-2)
