Arlington Middle School- A game that neither team had circled on their calendar at the beginning of the season, turned into a game that would go around and around in circles Tuesday afternoon. Landamark (3-0) would travel to Arlington (3-0) in hopes of essentially wrapping up the eastern division crown, however Arlington had other plans on their minds. Both teams knew this was a must win for them in order to make the playoffs and both squads played like it.
Landmark trailed at the half 7-6 falling behind the hungry Arlington ball club. It was a blazing touchdown run by Zaiire Gatling who got the Seahawks on the board first. Trailing by one point, Landmark seemingly got the big break they needed when Arlington fumbled, and it was recovered by the Seahawks. Landmark would capitalize on the turnover when Anthony Kirkland ran it in for the touchdown. The conversion was good, and Landmark led 14-7.
Arlington would respond in dramatic fashion. The Vikings got their scores from Kent Johnson and big Sayvion Blount. Their second touchdown came after trailing 13 to 7 in the second half and needing a score. Their team would give it all they had to eventually tie the game and send it to overtime. In overtime both teams traded possessions until the referee called the game due to night fall. Unfortunately at Duval County Middle School stadiums there are no stadium lights.
Instead of ending in a tie, the game must be decided. So the decision was made to play the overtime session again Thursday, October 19th 2017 5:30pm at Arlington Middle. The victor will secure sole place in the eastern division of the Duval County Middle School Football Conference.
