2017 Duval Sports Large School: First Team All-Area Defense

We release our 2017 All-Area football teams beginning this week, our All-Area teams are split up into small school and large school teams to give more kids due recognition.

Our large school teams (Class 5A-8A) consists of players from Sandalwood, Mandarin, Lee, Columbia, Fletcher, First Coast, Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Fleming Island, Creekside, Oakleaf, St. Augustine, Nease, Ed White, Middleburg, Englewood, Ribault, Yulee, Stanton, Paxon, Suwannee, Bolles, Trinity, Ponte Vedra, Bishop Kenny, Parker, Westside, Baker County, Clay, Menendez, Ridgeview, Palatka and Orange Park.

Our All-Area teams are all about production and not about recruiting rankings or offers on the table. You don’t produce you don’t make our teams.

First Team Defense

Jackson Bull, Fleming Island, Sr., LB
Why: 106 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions

Jack Surgeoner, Fleming Island, Sr., LB
Why: 113 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

Eriq Gilyard, Trinity, Sr., LB
Why: 135 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 1 interception

Kelton Knabb, Baker County, Jr., LB
Why: 100 plus tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions

Hunter May, Fletcher, Jr., DL
Why: 74 tackles, 18 sacks

Jalyn Robinson, Fleming Island, Sr., DL
Why: 75 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 1 forced fumble

Jake Libreto, Fleming Island, Jr., DL
Why: 73 tackles, 15 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble

Parker Devine, Bartram Trail, Sr., DL
Why: 58 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks

Stephen Williams, Trinity, Jr., DB
Why: 39 tackles and area leading 8 interceptions

Nyem Bozeman, Trinity, Sr., DB
Why: 49 tackles and 5 interceptions

Travon Wallace, Atlantic Coast, Sr., DB
Why: North Carolina Central commit had 47 tackles, 5 interceptions, 6 pass breakups

Jaden McDowell, St. Augustine, So., DB
Why: 86 tackles, 4 interceptions

Ty Edwards, Menendez, Jr., ATH
Why: 52 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 6 sacks on defense, 65 carries for 767 yards, 10 touchdowns, 11.8 y.p.c. on offense.

Ryan Smenda, Fleming Island, Sr., ATH
Why: 175 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 INT, 21 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 blocked kicks, 1 blocked punt, 1 fake punt for TD, 39.0 punt average, 30 inside 20

Zach Sheffer, Nease, Sr., KS
Why: LSU signee averaged 42.5 punting average
