Lakeland- Spruce Creek trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half but mounted a comeback, winning in dramatic fashion 44-43 over Miami Senior High to claim the Class 9A championship. . You may remember Spruce Creek as the team that dealt Sandalwood their first loss of the season. Sandalwood would go on to lose only three games all year including a heart breaker in the district tournament. Spruce Creek and Head Coach Kelvin Hamm won the first Girls Basketball Championship in the county in 7 years.

Led by Peryonna Sylvester’s13pts, Jayla Adams 13pts, and Yoke Tassent’s 10pts, the Hawks showed why they are truly a team that plays unselfishly. Spruce Creek sits in the same district as Mandarin and Sandalwood two local 9A teams and will look to defend their title against a hungry Saints and Mustang squads.
