Bartram Trail tops Inaugural High School softball rankings

We are nearing the midway point of the regular season as teams make their final push for making the postseason and began working on the playoffs.

Who are the top teams in the area and who is likely heading to the Final Four in Vero Beach ? These are questions we will answer over the next few weeks.

Inaugural Softball Poll

1 Bartram Trail (12-1)

Outlook: A few nights after knocking off No. 1 Oakleaf, the Bears perhaps had still not come off their high yet stumbling at Providence. Yet there is not a more scary team right now then Bartram Trail as the Bears have reeled off seven straight wins since including wins over solid Ridgeview and Creekside teams.

2 Oakleaf (11-2)

Outlook: Christina Thompson has put together a demanding schedule for the defending state champions and the Knights have responded as only a one run loss to No. 1 state ranked Lakewood Ranch and a loss to No. 1 Bartram Trail is keeping them from an undefeated season.

3 Providence (10-1)

Outlook: After dropping a key district game to Trinity, the Stallions have won 7 in a row including wins over St. Johns Country Day  and Bartram Trail.

4 West Nassau (10-4)

Outlook: They might be very young but these Warriors can play with anyone, the areas toughest schedule will pay off come playoff time.

5 Keystone Heights (12-3)

Outlook: How good are the Indians? Their only three losses were to Union County, Gainesville and Oakleaf, who were all ranked No. 1 in their classification in the state poll at some point this season.

6 Columbia (12-3)

Outlook: Tigers staked their claim in the rankings splitting a pair of games with nationally ranked Gainesville last week in a critical two game series.

7 Mandarin (13-3)

Outlook: Mustangs are coming off a second place finish at the Battle at the Beach tournament in Daytona, where they went 2-1 dropping a 1-0 decision to Orange City University in the title game.

8 Ridgeview (9-3)

Outlook: The shocking death of their coach Roger Harvey weeks before the season has sparked the Panthers to a phenomenal season so far.

9 Trinity Christian (12-4)

Outlook: Despite their youthfullness the Conquerors have fared well against tough schedule with wins over Providence, Baker County and Bishop Moore.

10 Baker County (10-4)

Outlook: The Wildcats have won 9 of their last 11 games including four in a row to claim the last spot for now thanks to a tough schedule, which features three games against the rest of the top ten.

Honorable Mention: Creekside (10-5), St. Johns Country Day (9-1), Eagles View (11-1), Peniel (13-2), Christ’s Church (7-1)
