We are reaching near the end of the regular season as the playoffs are quickly approaching this month. Teams make their final push towards winning the district tournament and securing a playoff berth.
Here is our second installment of area baseball rankings. We have a new leader now after one local team win on the road and won the prestigious IMG National Baseball Classic.
Week 2 Rankings
1 Bolles (14-2)
Why: We knew the Bulldogs were really good but going on the road and winning the prestigious IMG National Baseball Classic has vaulted them from No. 3 to now No. 1 this week.
2 Providence (16-2)
Why: If not for Bolles huge week, the Stallions would have likely stayed at No. 1 despite a 3-1 week. Regardless the Stallions are a dangerous team to watch.
3 Ponte Vedra (11-4)
Why: You may not agree with me here but it doesn’t make sense to me to drop the Sharks more than one spot despite going 2-2 at the Hall of Fame Classic in Fort Lauderdale.
4 Creekside (12-2)
Why: The Knights enjoyed their spring break with a pair of wins over Sandalwood and St. Joseph to remain in the No. 4 spot.
5 Ridgeview (11-3)
Why: Nine in a row for the Panthers after sweeping Menendez this week to set up top five showdown this coming week with No. 3 Ponte Vedra for the temporary top seed in District 4-6A.
6 Trinity (10-3)
Why: It was Spring Break for the Conquerors and they took it easy dispatching Duval Charter in their only game of the week.
7 Bishop Kenny (10-4)
Why: Crusaders went 2-1 on the week sweeping Ribault in a doubleheader while dropping a tough one to state power Pensacola Catholic earlier in the week.
8 Stanton (9-4)
Why: Back-to-back sweeps of district rivals Parker and Paxon has put the Devils into the top ten and in total control now of District 3-6A.
9 Terry Parker (11-3)
Why: After winning their own Spring Break tournament last week, the Braves had the week off and moved up a spot despite not playing.
10 Mandarin (11-4)
Why: A 1-1 week drops the Mustangs down a bit after a loss to Southview (Ohio) and a bounce back win over Fletcher.
Dropped out: No. 9 Baker County (10-4)
Honorable Mention: Sandalwood (10-4), Baker County (10-4), Clay (11-5), Union County (9-5), Fernandina Beach (10-4), Yulee (11-4), St. Johns (9-5), U.C. (12-7), Christs Church (7-4)
