High School Story of Year: No. 8 Back-to-back Kissimmee Klassic titles for Knights

KISSIMMEE-Like every year the 26th Annual Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic is a preview of the state softball finals a month from now in Vero Beach.
The annual tournament in Kissimmee draws the top teams from around the state as well as few from around the country in what has proved to be a good indication of who is heading to Vero Beach again.
Christina Thompson is hoping history repeats itself as well, as for the second straight year the Oakleaf Knights captured the Blue Division tile this weekend after a 7-3 win over state power Bartow in the title game Saturday night.
Last year, the Knights rode a win in the Klassic title game all the way to the schools first state title with a win over Wellington in Vero Beach. If this weekend is any indication, the Knights are well on their way back to defend their title.
It was anything but easy for the Knights who had to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Eustis 2-1 in the quarterfinals  just to get to the title game.

Oakleaf 7, Bartow 3

The Blue Division title game featured Class 8A ranked teams No. 2 Oakleaf and No. 6 Bartow for the Kissimmee Klassic title.

Oakleaf struck first with a run in the top of the first as Kaylee Lambrecht tripled with one out and scored on Rebecca Koskey RBI single.

However, Bartow rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last long though as Destiny Pacetti and Katie Kistler both singled and advanced a base on a sac bunt from Lambrecht. Rebecca Koskey followed hitting a inside the park three run home run to give Oakleaf a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth.

Bartow rallied again for a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3 going into the seventh and final inning.

However, the Knights put it away with a three run seventh as Lambrecht reached first after being hit by a pitch and scored on Koskey RBI double. Baylee Goddard doubled to score Koskey and scored on Angela Agurkis two out RBI single to increase the lead to 7-3.

Koskey led the Knights offensively going 2 for 4 with 5 RBI including a double and a home run along with Aspen Windesheim, who went 2 for 4.

Oakleaf 2, Eustis 1

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Oakleaf needed a miracle Saturday night to advance to the semifinals and got it.

Eustis (12-3), ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, handcuffed the Knights offense for six innings and looked well on their way to pulling the upset.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Baylee Goddard, who was 0 for 3, stepped in the box and ripped a bullet to the fence to score two runs and allow the Knights to rally from behind 2-1 to advance to the semifinals.

The Knights managed 8 hits including doubles from Destiny Pacetti and Caitlynne Lamug.
