We are nearing the end of the regular season for high school softball as teams make their final push for making the postseason and begin working on the playoffs. Who are the top teams in the area and who is likely heading to the Final Four in Vero Beach ? These are questions we will answer over the next few weeks.
Week 4 Rankings
1 Oakleaf (20-2)
Outlook: Another perfect week for the Knights with wins over No. 8 Trinity Christian 8-5, No. 9 West Nassau 4-3 in 8 innings and No. No. 1 Providence 9-0 this week.
2 Bartram Trail (18-2)
Outlook: Bears got revenge over Middleburg with 10-0 win in the quarterfinals, then took out rival Nease 4-0 in the semifinals to win the St. Johns River Athletic Conference tournament title at Nease. Despite Fleming Island forfeiting the title game, the Bears were crowned tourney champions and then made up their rained out game with First Coast and easily won 11-0 to end the week with three more wins.
3. Columbia (18-3)
Outlook: Nine wins in a row now for the Tigers, who are coming off wins over No. 1 in 1A Trenton 3-1 and RV in 5A poll Baker County 5-3 last week.
4 Providence (14-2)
Outlook: Mixed week for the Stallions but kudos to them for picking up No. 1 Oakleaf after both lost games due to weather although they fell 9-0; however they rebounded to pound Eagles View 10-0 four days later.
5 West Nassau (16-6)
Outlook: Decent week for the Warriors, who fought hard and gave No. 1 Oakleaf all they could handle before dropping a 4-3 loss in 8 innings, however rebounded with nice wins over Bishop Kenny 6-0 and Baker County 10-0.
6 Keystone Heights (15-7)
Outlook: Thanks to rain outs, the lone game of the week turned out to be a nail bitter as the Indians went on the road and stole a 1-0 win over host Santa Fe last week.
7 Creekside (13-7)
Outlook: A 2-2 finish recently at the Doc4 Life tourney and a 4-3 win over Belleview last week has vaulted the Knights into the poll for the first time.
8 Ridgeview (11-5)
Outlook: In lone game of the week, the Panthers dropped a tough 2-1 district loss to Clay in 8 innings last Friday that decided top seed in district.
9 Trinity (14-8)
