Spring Football Recap: Stanton Outlasts Ironmen of Wolfson

Wolfson HS- The Wolfson Wolfpack dressed just 17 players in the spring football contest against the Stanton Blue Devils this year . Yet what the Wolfpack lacked in players they made up with passion, as the team kept the contest extremely close for four quarters. In the end, Stanton would pull ahead late and never look back winning the contest 30-21.

Quick Takes From the Game:

  • Wolfson jumps out to a 14 point lead. Using their running. #6 Jelani Lang running with purpose and drive.
  • Wolfson running game is successful running to its left they racked up lots of rushing yards by the quarterback #4 Kevin Bryant and running backs. #25 Ray Murphy scored the second TD for Wolfson

  • Stanton settles down and gives it to their workhorse RB #21 Kerry Darelus who shows his versatility in running and catching the football. A big first down catch and run off left tackle to score the first Stanton TD! Score 14-13 Wolfson

  • Stanton gets some stops on defense, thanks in part to the wearing down of Wolfson’s talent. All players are playing both ways. (iron man football) . Stanton’s defense is also opportunistic. LB Aiden Noe making plays including a safety in the game. Score 15-14 Stanton. 3rd.

  • #9 Joseph Baez with the interception and 50 yd return for Wolfson. You can tell he loves the game.
  • Wolfson shows fight and heart clawing back into the game. They catch Stanton off guard with a big pass play. Pass caught by #3 Cameron Harris from QB Kevon Bryant to put Wolfson up 21-15 4th.

  • Stanton shows they can return the favor with a quick score of their own. QB Tyler Bass threw a beautiful pass down the left side to Roy Blizzard who took it for the score! Extra point is good! 22-21 Stanton leads 4th.
  • Bass adds a TD run to end the scoring on the evening 30-21. Wolfson is totally spent and bot h coaches decide to end the contest quickly. Stanton wins 30-21

Stanton Standouts from the game:

  • Stanton’s Roy Blizzard is extremely versatile. He’s got great hands, good speed and is a tough football player. Can play multiple positions. He also secured an interception in the game.
  • Stanton is extremely deep and has alot of depth. That will come in handy as Coach Healy lost alot of seniors last year.

Wolfson’s Standouts from the game:

  • Coach Bettinger and staff have Wolfson’s mighty 17 players flying around and playing hard this spring. I believe they have the right Coach in place to teach discipline and character.
  • They have great leadership on the team including Omari Jackson #8 who leads vocally and on the field
  • Christian MacCauley #53 is worth a look. He’s big, and athletic and played DE and RT. He’s built for DE and made lots of plays on defense.
  • Clyde Holland #10 may be all around the best football player in Jacksonville. He’s only a rising junior! Wolfson’s Clyde Holland! He hits, runs, catches, blocks, punts. LB, RB,WR, P. He is a true “one man gang” as they used to say.
