Boys Gateway Conference Tournament Round 2!!

After the sweet 16 teams of the Gateway Conference battled yesterday, Wednesday pitted the elite eight against one another. Sandalwood, Mandarin, Jackson, Ribault, Raines, Wolfson, Englewood, and Ed White all earned the chance to compete for a spot in the final four. Check out the recap of round two action.

Englewood vs Ed White

Anthony Jeanty and Dalvin Storey led Ed White to a 65-33 beating of Englewood at Wolfson High School. The Commanders jumped out big, leading at halftime 38-17. They never looked back thanks to Jeanty and Storey’s 9 first half points each. Englewood played better in the second half as they competed for pride. Morris Little Jr and his teammates kept hustling to the end. But Ed White physically outmatched them. The Commanders would move on to the final four.

Raines vs Wolfson

The Wolfpack came into the contest with a first round bye awaiting the Vikings. Wolfson came into the contest 21-2 and poised to continue their remarkable season with a tournament championship. Standing in their way was the Raines Vikings, a scrappy team that battled their way through a 13-9 regular season. Their win against Fletcher in the first round was no different, a tough grinding affair that ended in a Viking win. Their contest against Wolfson was no different, as both teams traded buckets early. Raines would build a double digit lead in the second half when Wolfson mounted a comeback. Down by two points with seconds to play, the Wolfpack had a chance to tie or win. Going for the win, Wolfson attempted a three pointer but was fouled by the Vikings. Three free throws later, the game would end with a Wolfpack dramatic win. Wolfson will face Ed White in the final four Thursday.

Jackson vs Ribault

Andrew Jackson got 16 points from Marcus Miller as the Tigers edged the Trojans 59-54 at Sandalwood High School. With a 20-1 record, Jackson is the overall favorite for many to win the tournament. But the Trojans were not going to go quietly. Both teams traded baskets back and forth, but the visitors from out east were to much for their neighbors to the North. Ribault showed tremendous heart this game rebounding from a earlier season blowout loss to Jackson. The tigers have shown all season that they can win even when their not playing their best. It’s scary to see what this team can do when clicking on all cylinders.

Mandarin vs Sandalwood

The Mustangs began the game on a 9-0 run to set the tone for the evening. Sandalwood would play catch up all night, eventually succumbing to consistency of Mandarin. #20 Admir Radoncic contributed 7 points in the first half to keep the Saints at bay. #10 Jeff Coulonges of Mandarin began to take over the game aiding his team to a 13 point lead late in the 4th period. But Sandalwood would turn up the pressure on defense and knock down consecutive three pointers to pull within three points. #5 for Da Wood kept them in it, but #10 for Mandarin sealed the deal. Radoncic finished the game with 23 points while Coulonges added 13 points. Ryan Wallace of Sandalwood had 16 points. Mandarin will face Jackson in the final four Thursday.
